Best Luggage Brands in Singapore (2026): Buyer's Guide

Our 2026 buyer's guide to the best luggage brands in Singapore — warranty, materials, price and airline size limits across cabin and 28-inch check-in cases.

Vox Journey Editorial · · 18 min read

How we wrote this guide

This guide is published by Vox Journey, the Singapore brand behind the VOX magnesium aluminium and RPET Voyage Box ranges. We have an obvious commercial interest in recommending VOX luggage — and we do. We also recommend brands we compete with, where they’re genuinely the right choice for a specific traveller. Where we mention Vox Journey, we say so plainly.

We’ve ranked luggage across five criteria:

  1. Durability — shell impact resistance, wheel mileage, zipper cycles, telescoping handle wear
  2. Tropical fitness — humidity resistance, mould resistance of linings, mildew of zips
  3. Singapore service — local warranty servicing, repair speed, parts availability in SG
  4. Value — feature-per-dollar in the SGD 250–650 mid-range
  5. Airline compliance — does it fit the cabin and checked-baggage size limits on your routes?

Best luggage in Singapore by category

Best premium check-in (28-inch)

For long-haul and multi-week travellers, a 28-inch check-in is the workhorse. The premium tier of this category includes aluminium-alloy hardshells alongside polycarbonate.

  • Our premium-value pick (we make it): VOX Magnesium Aluminium Voyage Box 28” (S$590 founders’ / S$690 retail) — magnesium-aluminium alloy shell
  • Also aluminium: Tumi’s 19 Degree family comes in several materials; only the 19 Degree Aluminum line is aircraft-grade aluminium
  • Other luxury names in this tier: Rimowa and Globe-Trotter

For aluminium cases sold in Singapore compared side by side, see our aluminium luggage guide.

Best sustainable check-in (28-inch)

Recycled-content cases, picked on what the shell is made of.

  • Our value pick (we make it): VOX RPET Voyage Box 28” (S$290 founders’ / S$390 retail) — moulded recycled PET, expands 5 cm
  • Another recycled-materials name to consider: Patagonia

Best cabin luggage (carry-on, 55cm)

Vox Journey’s range is two 28-inch check-in cases with no cabin size, so these picks are all other brands:

  • Best mid-range: American Tourister — a 3-year warranty
  • Best premium: July — a limited lifetime warranty on its luggage
  • Best luxury: Rimowa

How to choose: a decision framework for Singapore travellers

1. Size your bag to your most common trip, not your dream trip

Most Singaporeans over-buy luggage. The traveller who buys a 76cm “for that future Europe trip” uses it 0–2 times a year and lugs around a half-empty bag the other 10 times. Buy for what you actually do:

  • Weekend trips (KL, Bangkok, Bali, Penang): cabin only, 55cm
  • Week-long Asia trips (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong): 55cm or 66cm
  • Two-week Europe / long-haul: 66cm or 76cm

2. Polycarbonate is the default for Singapore’s climate

Singapore’s storage conditions are brutal on luggage. HDB storerooms hit 32°C and 80% humidity for months at a time. Materials matter:

  • Polycarbonate: Resists mould on the shell. Pair with anti-microbial linings.
  • Aluminium: Beautiful, dent-shows. Heavy. Best for low-humidity storage.
  • ABS: Cheap, brittle, cracks at the corners after 3 years.
  • Fabric (ballistic nylon, RPET): Mould risk on the lining; quick-dry treatment essential.

3. Warranty length is a quality proxy

A brand that offers a 5-year warranty has done the math on how long their bags actually last. A brand that offers 1–2 years is telling you something — listen.

SamsoniteVaries by line — 10 years on some (e.g. Modio), 3 years on others (e.g. Apinex)samsonite.com.sg

AwayLifetimeCare (Away’s term) — repairs for the life of the case, complimentary for the first 5 years, a service fee afterawaytravel.com

We’ve left Rimowa out of this table because we could not confirm its current warranty terms on rimowa.com when this guide was updated.

4. Check the local repair situation

A “lifetime warranty” is only useful if the bag can be repaired without posting it overseas. Before you buy, check whether the brand offers a local service option in Singapore. Vox Journey’s own servicing arrangements are still being finalised. International brands sometimes ship bags overseas for repair, which can add weeks.

Airline size limits (what actually matters for a 28-inch case)

If you are buying a 28-inch check-in case, the number to watch is your airline’s checked-baggage size limit. Many long-haul carriers set it the way Singapore Airlines does:

The sum of length, width and height of each checked baggage must not exceed 158cm (62 inches). — Singapore Airlines

Measure your case — wheels and handles included — against your own airline’s limit before you fly.

Cabin (carry-on) allowances are smaller, vary by airline and change often, so always check your carrier’s own page before flying. Two we confirmed on the airline’s own site in October 2026:

CarrierMax cabin bagMax weight
Emirates (Economy)55 × 38 × 22 cm7 kg
AirAsia56 × 36 × 23 cm7 kg total, up to 2 pieces

Budget carriers are usually the strictest, so size to the tightest limit on your itinerary.

Common Singapore buyer mistakes

  1. Buying the biggest size “just in case.” You’ll use it twice a year and curse it ten times.
  2. Ignoring weight. Empty bag weight matters — every kilo of bag is a kilo of clothes you can’t pack.
  3. Falling for “RRP slashed 70%.” That RRP was made up. Compare on absolute price.
  4. Skipping the lining. Tropical-climate linings prevent mould; cheap linings grow it.
  5. Buying on wheel count alone. Four wheels glide on smooth floors; two larger wheels survive kerbs and gravel better. Match it to where you actually walk.

Frequently asked questions

Which VOX case should I buy — the Magnesium Aluminium or the RPET?

Both are 28-inch check-in cases with a 5-year warranty on the shell and wheels. The VOX Magnesium Aluminium Voyage Box (S$690 retail, S$590 founders') is a magnesium-aluminium alloy hardshell — 79.83 L, 5.75 kg, with engraving available. The VOX RPET Voyage Box (S$390 retail, S$290 founders') is a moulded recycled-PET case — 96.63 L, 5.15 kg, and it expands 5 cm for another 16.66 L.

How long is the VOX warranty?

5 years on the shell and wheels, registered to your email at purchase. Servicing arrangements are still being finalised and will be published in full before they are needed — we would rather say that than promise a process we have not confirmed.

Does Vox Journey deliver across Singapore, and how long does it take?

Delivery is free anywhere in Singapore — no minimum order, no delivery charge at checkout. Delivery in Singapore takes 1–3 business days. We also ship to Malaysia (S$55 per case), Hong Kong (S$100 per case) and Japan (S$200 per case) by tracked courier, charged at checkout. Any import duty or tax in your country is paid by you when the case arrives. Tracking is emailed as soon as your case is dispatched.

Can I return a VOX case?

You can return a case within 7 days of delivery, in original condition, with the original box. Email hello@voxjourney.com first — we will confirm the details and it comes back to our Ubi address. Each return is handled case by case, and once the case is back with us it takes 7 working days to process.

What airline size limit should a 28-inch check-in case meet?

Many long-haul carriers cap each checked bag at a total of 158 cm (length + width + height) — the limit Singapore Airlines publishes. Measure your case, wheels and handles included, against your own airline's limit before you fly.
